Research position – PhD Student (f/m)
Pay grade E 13 TV-L Berlin (100%)

The position will be a fixed-term contract for two years with the option to be extended. 

Research Topic

One aim of the project is to analyze a large set of medical image data with respect to the anatomy of the knee joint in order to determine the variation in shape of the knee bones and the joint space. Clusters of similar shapes are to be determined in order to geometrically design a set of interpositional implants that fit a wide range of the osteoarthritic population. A second aim is to develop a prototype of an interactive, graphics-based 3d planning software that enables a surgeon to select a proper implant for an individual patient with gradual osteoarthritis. 

Requirements

  • above average master or diploma degree in computer sciences or mathematics
  • strong interest in application oriented research & development within the area of orthopedic research
  • excellent knowledge in computational geometry as well as in statistical cluster analysis
  • profound knowledge in object oriented software development as well as programming skills in C++
  • ability to work in a team as well as independently and goal-oriented
  • good communication skills in English
